he site of Crane Brook Restaurant & Tea Room once featured an iron foundry where ore from surrounding bogs was used to produce cannonballs for the fledgling American Army during the War of 1812. Over the intervening years, The Crane Brook was a cranberry screening house known as The Crane Brook Cranberry Company, a tearoom and antique shop and later converted to one of the finest dining establishments on the South Shore.

In February 2004, restaurateur Don McKeag purchased the restaurant and embarked on an extensive renovation and restoration project. The new layout, among other improvements, boasts a newly extended bar area. Aesthetically, Don has now introduced many period appropriate elements that complement the existing décor while also creating an ambiance that bespeaks a 19th Century sense of time and place.
